Ritual

This is the time for us to set our wishes/intentions for the upcoming year.

Yule-Northern Hemisphere-Winter Solstice

This celebration is of rebirth and the return of the sun. Renewing of the old. It’s the beginning of longer, brighter days. A time to celebrate knowing that spring and warmer days lie ahead. A return of light, hope, and promise.

Litha- Southern Hemisphere-Summer Solstice

Longest day of the year where life & light are abundant. The time in which the son God is the strongest. Time of celebration by burning the sun wheel with promises of fertility and prosperity for the coming year. Also, a celebration of the Goddess because she is with child reflecting nature’s growth and abundance.

Now let’s start our Yule/Litha ritual

Casting the circle:

To the Guardians of the East

“I call you into our watchtowers to protect and guide us”

To the Guardians of the South

“I call you into the watchtowers to protect and guide us”

To the Guardians of the West

“I call you into the watchtowers to protect and guide us”

To the Guardians of the North

“I call you into the watchtowers to protect and guide us”

I cast this circle by the power of three times three with assistance of the Great Mother and the Great God

I call upon the spirit guardians for protection, as above so below, May the power of the Great God and the Great Mother join us within our circle, to protect, to guide, and allow us to see beyond the veil.

Flashback 2002 – Summer Solstice

Litha

Litha or the Summer Solstice sabbat celebrates the Sun at the peak of its power. The Sun and solstice are about male energy; and because fixed water power dominates on June 21, Mars triumphant will lend its energy to “increasing” projects and any magic begun at this time, such as money or prosperity spells. The Sun is waxing, the Moon is waxing, MArs is potent, and the day belongs to a smiling Venus. This is a wonderful holiday for lovers and their fertility.

Begin your ritual at dawn. Use sunflowers to represent the Sun King, but for Aphrodite decorate your altar with red roses, rose water, strawberries and other aphrodisiacs. Burn dried clippings from you rose bushes for the cauldron fire. Spread rose butte on toast for cakes and ale, and sprinkle with fresh petals or rose scents sugar. To make rose butter, take a stick of butter and completely surround it in a small container with a cup of scented, organic, fresh red rose petals, Let the flavors marry overnight; discard petals and repeat.

Flashback 2001 – Summer Solstice

Litha

Litha is the Midsummer celebration of the Sun at its zenith. It is a time when heat, light, and the Sun-God himself are the strongest. After this brief moment ion time, their strength will start to diminish as the year wanes gradually to darkness. FOr this ritual you will need a small amount of dried herbs, a fire – and heat – proof container in which to burn them and some matches. Use caution, so that you don’t start a fire outdoors or set off your smoke detector indoors. Choose herbs that share an affinity with the Sun and fire such as bay leaves, sunflowers, basil, frankincense, or any mint plant. Verbally pay homage to the Sun-God, then light the herbs. They will burn fast and hot – and may not smell wonderful! Revel in the heat and light pouring from the container and feel the way it symbolizes the quick apex and descent of the Sun on Litha,

Flashback 2000 – Summer Solstice

Midsummer

The Sun is at his highest now, and the business of life carrying on at an amazing pace. At the Summer Solstice, the days are at their longest. Warm breezes and accommodating weather allow us to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. This is the time of year when the Sun steps into Cancer, the Moon’s sign. As the ruler of home, emotions, family, and what one cherishes, it’s important to pat attention to the Moon now – and to the concept of cycles in general. The fruits of our efforts are eveywhere, as crops continue to grow and farmers look forward to their first harvests. This is also the month when many couple decide to marry, forging a permanent bond akin to that of God and Goddess, eternal partners in the dance of life. Take a moment at this potent time of year to look around you, both at the Earth Mother and at the point you’ve reached in your cycle of life. What gifts has she presented? What gifts have you given back? The full potential of the life-foirce is obvious now to one and all. Enjoy the celebration.
