Witches of The Craft offers a daily digest that includes daily tarot card, astrological information among other things. WOTC is our sister web site and this is why Coven Life does not do this type of thing. Coven Life main focus is bring information to those who want to learn more about The Craft, it’s history, rituals, how to perform spells, etc. In other words we are a teaching website.
A lot of people want to learn Witchcraft because they think it’s going to be a quick and easy way to rewards. They think you follow instructions to light a candle, say a few words, and boom— stuff happens.
It doesn’t quite work that way– spells are a little like recipes. You can try to follow along, but if you aren’t familiar with the ingredients, if you don’t understand the techniques, if you don’t have a basic understanding of the methods or practice very much, it will be hit or miss.
In fact, the more you rely on the recipe, without really learning what makes them work, the more misses you’ll have than hits.
When you get a recipe at that stage, you don’t even know enough about cooking to know if it’s any good, or if it’s flawed. If you can’t find the exact ingredients, or the right tool, you aren’t really sure what to do or how it will affect the outcome of the dish. All you can do is cross your fingers and hope for the best. Even if it comes out good one time, you don’t know why so you can’t really repeat it.
You want to get beyond the stage of using other people’s recipes– you want to really learn how to cook. You want to learn to understand the ingredients, the tools, you want to hone those skills so that you don’t have to stand there reading someone else’s instructions– you can achieve your own vision of a dish, because you have learned what to do.
Witchcraft, like any other skills, requires more than just following “recipes”– or in this case, spells that other people write down. It’s not enough to just trust it, follow instructions and hope for the best. It requires that you learn, it requires that you become familiar with the ingredients (components), the tools, the techniques.
Here, I’d like to provide you with a Witchcraft primer to give you an overview of the kinds of things involved.

It is getting to be that time of year again when people decide to set resolutions for themselves. Instead…try something different! Set Goals for yourself! My friend Marietta over at Witchy Words (you can click this link to go to her blog http://www.witchywords.com/ ) wrote a blog post last year about setting goals. I really liked the way she did it because she used a Pentacle to bring in the 5 elements as well as aspects of her life that are important to her. Here is a photo (used with her permission) of her goals she set for herself using a pentacle. I have also included a blank version you can print out to use for yourself. I enjoy using this form because it makes me really think about what is important to me spiritually as well as what is truly achievable. The outdoors is my temple/church. Mother Earth and Ra (Egyptian Sun God) are my guides as I travel the path of my spirituality. I look to all positive beings alive or dead to keep me company on this journey. The animals, birds and reptiles are also my brothers and sisters on the path of enlightenment. The trees, flowers, bushes, etc all give me something beautiful to look at no matter what season it is. My Spirit Guides, Totem/Spirit Animals, my Protectors and ancestors keep my safe and lead me in the right direction in life (when I listen).
What travels with you on your spiritual path?
Remember being a Witch is not just all about doing spells, making charms and the other magickal parts; it is also about how you live your life.
Two rules to follow as you live your life and walk its path.
Do as ye will less it harm none.
Remember the threefold law – whatever you do comes back to you three times as strong.
Also keep in mind it is not the destination you reach at the end of this lifetime but the journey that takes you there, it should be loving and peaceful towards all people, other living things on Mother Earth and honoring your ancestors that have come before you.

We as Witches and Pagans are in a unique position to help others learn how they in a small way can make a difference in keeping our Mother clean and help restore her to health. Take a small bag with you when walking and pick up trash left behind by others let other people walking along or driving down the street see what you are doing. It just might make spark a thought in them to either do the same when they are about and about or better still not to litter at all.
If a Witch only has two tools they should be the ones that are most personal to any Witch. One being a Wand and the other their Book of Shadows. With these two tools a Witch can always cast a circle to perform all types of magick, have something handy to read and add to when out on a “nature” walk.
