Making Tools and your spiritual Journey

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Lesson 4

Continuing on with tools of the trade, or the Craft should I say.

In the previous lessons in Making Tools and your spiritual Journey we covered the reverence of space and respect needed to make these sacred objects, ones that will assist you on your Magickal Journey. Please review if need be on Coven Life web site.

Allow yourself time and space to be creative by adding to your Witches armamentarium.

All good things take time, time to make, time to collect, and the right time to make such as certain moon phases or even planet and other star alignments. I have known people to take years to make a tool. This does not need to be the case with you, however the more energy you weave through it the more of a Magickal significance it will have to you and the reason you choose to use it for, Just like the incredible Magick that is weaved into tapestry, carpets, quilts, clothing for war that was made by the women throughout the ages to protects their loved ones from harm.

In this Lesson we will continue with scrying.

This is a technique where with practice one becomes better. Others are born with the sight and scrying allows one to hone in on that sight, others need to practice and become better equipped with this skill as time goes on. Either Way, it is an invaluable tool to possess.

Through scrying we can tap into the sacred knowledge of all mankind. Scrying is best done when the sun has completely descended and the moon is at her peak.

Learn to work with the Earth and her phases, both the masculine and feminine energy that is needed to weave such Magick. Use the energy that descends from the Cosmos and bring it into your working space. Use the energy that ascends from the Great Earth Mother and use it ground yourself.  This can be done as a daily ritual too.

As a Witch you have been gifted with the ability to harness from this universal energy. However do keep in mind that this is ONLY to be used for the greater good, this does not include personal gains. Please refer to previous lesson on how to harness this energy and the importance of purity of thought and deed when using it. Use your gift wisely!

Mirror Magic

A shiny piece of obsidian palm stone used for scrying is perfect!

Just like a crystal ball and water, anything that lends a reflective surface can be used for scrying.

Making your own mirror can also be a great deal of fun. This is best prepared during the waning of the full moon, so ensure the materials are gathered before that time.

Ideally leave it for one whole moon cycle before scrying.

You will need:

  • Photo frame with backing, choose any size you desire, smaller ones are great to carry around with you, larger ones can be displayed in the home. This will get the visitors talking! Start small and if you feel it works for you than go ahead and make a larger one.
  • Non aerosol, black high gloss paint
  • Dried herbs that will enhance your psychic ability such as dragons’ blood, hyssop, orris root, mugwort, or whatever herb you choose during your research. There are a number of psychic herbs, I personally use mugwort and jasmine flower (all dried and crushed well in a mortar and pestle).
  • Disposable mixing container
  • Paint brush

Method:

Mix the paint and herbs together. Ensure there is not too much of the herb mix that will interfere with the final glossy finish, just enough to create the texture yet still somewhat smoothed out.

While mixing, visualize the light of the moon and say:

By the Moon’s darkest light

Perception of the night

Become part of my skills

And thus banish all ills.

  • Paint inside of the glass using long brush strokes.
  • Cover the surface completely leaving no gaps.
  • When completely dry, place the backing back on the frame.
  • Leave your mirror outside in the moonlight for as long as you can, then keep it covered by a dark cloth. I even like to put a piece black silk over mine.

Note: Such mirrors can also be used to deflect negativity back to where it belongs.  If it ever needs to be used for this purpose, it needs to be reconsecrated if it is to be used for scrying again. It might be best to keep a separate mirror for such purpose.

Please look up consecrating your sacred objects on Coven Life search if not sure.

In the up and coming lessons I will be talking about using your mirror for protection of personal space and finding lost objects.

The Door Washing Charm

Imbolc Greetings from The Goddess & The Green Man.
Happy New Year to you all.  We’re not featuring any products this time.  Instead, here is a simple and effective charm, using items readily available in the home, for you to gently wash away that lovely, but now faded, energy of Yule. It’s time to get ready for the bright and hopeful energy of Imbolc and new beginnings!

The Door Washing Charm
To cleanse and lift the energy in your home

You will need:

3 drops of lemon essential oil or a teaspoon of natural lemon  juice
2 drops of lavender oil
Hot water
A white cloth
A bowl or bucket

Place your lemon oil or juice into your bowl and pour on hot water. When the water has cooled sufficiently stir well in a clockwise fashion. Then take your cloth and gently wipe your door starting in the centre and working outwards in a clockwise movement. Whilst doing this repeat three times  (either aloud or in your head):

“Happiness and calm be welcome inside. May peace and love here always reside.”

When you have done this wring your cloth out under running water, dry thoroughly and keep it for further cleansing.  Pour your water out safely outside. And feel the difference.

Black Tibetan Quartz and the power of OM

image

Tibetan Black Quartz. One of the most spirituals uplifting and ethereal quartzes I know.
A powerful stone said to hold the energy of the OM and you can feel this when you are with one.
Choose this elder wisely for if you do the power to release unwanted energy blockages and balance all you chakras and meridians allows for an ethereal experience.

It bestows purification, protection and spiritual attainment. A wonderful crystal to use during mediation allows you to enter a space within.
It is said that a double terminated Tibetan Quartz is one of the most powerful stones for spiritual protection found, this makes it a wonderful tool for healers.

These crystals are especially good for girding to create a mini- vortex of good vibration. They harmonise well with Moldavite, Lemurian seed, Lithium and Faden Quartz.
Just remember when seeking one of these quartzes allow it to choose you. Have patience and it will come to you.

Many blessing Hypatia

Learn About Traditional Folk Magic – Part 3

Many times in discussion of modern Paganism, it’s easy for us to overlook a valuable source of information – the past. Some of our not-so-distant ancestors practiced various forms of folk magic, and we can learn a lot from those old remedies, charms, and stories. In fact, in many parts of the world, what is often dismissed as superstition is in fact a perfectly valid system of folklore-based practical magic. Today, let’s look at some of the most popular types of folk magic. We’ll talk about animal legend and folklore, omens, simple protection rituals, and more.

Protection Magic

n many magical traditions, workings can be done to ensure protection of home, property, and people. There are a number of simple ways you can do protection workings.

  • Make an Onion Braid protection charm to hang in your home to protect those who live there.
  • Use crystals or stones with magical properties, such as Hematite to create a barrier around your home. Put a piece of Hematite at each outside corner of the house.
  • Make a magical poppet to protect yourself or a loved on.
  • Brew up some Protection Oil, and anoint yourself with it. This will keep you safe from psychic or magical attacks.
  • Plant herbs with protective properties, such as violet, thistle, honeysuckle, or fennel around your home. When they bloom, harvest them and hang them up to dry. Use the dried herbs in protective sachets or incense.
  • Hang an iron horseshoe, open end facing down, to keep evil spirits out of your home. A horseshoe found along the side of a road was particularly powerful, and was known to provide protection against disease. In some areas, the horseshoe is displayed with the open side at the top, to contain good fortune.
    • Make a batch of Black Salt to sprinkle around your property for protection.
    • In western Scotland, it was once popular to make a small cross of rowan twigs and bind them together with red string. Hanging this in the window or over a door will keep negative influences from crossing the threshold.
    • If you’re suffering from bad dreams, consider making an Herbal Dream Pillow to protect you in your sleep.

In addition to performing protection workings, it’s a good idea to read up on magical self-defense and protection

Keystone Crystal Grid

Keystone Crystal Grid

Everyone is pretty busy these days and don’t always have time to walk your own property to set up wards.  You can create a Keystone Crystal Grid that you will use to ward your property.  I chose four crystals to represent each of the Cardinal Directions and the associated Element (they each have the elemental symbol engraved on them).  In the middle I have a Quartz Crystal Generator with a small Pentacle underneath it to represent Spirit.  I used Quartz Crystal points to point the energy towards the generator.  I then put everything in a Flower of Life Grid.  You can draw your own “map” using any symbols that are important to you to draw in the energy of the elements, and then to connect them to the generator crystal in the middle.  I charged my grid by the three nights of the Full Moon (this is what I intuitively felt needed to be done).  You can charge by the Sun if that is what you are drawn to do.

Once charged, I walked my property, placing each one of the crystals at its corresponding Cardinal Direction, holding the Quartz Generator in my other hand, setting intention as I placed each crystal.  You can bury them if that is what you feel drawn to do.  When done, I then placed the generator on my altar.  So as I see the generator crystal, I can set intention that it continually charges the other four crystals.

The nice thing about this style of warding is that if you live in an apartment, you can even place the crystal in a small pot of dirt to ward your property.
