Week 19 – Goddess Knowledge – Venus

Venus is the Roman goddess of grace and love, called Aphrodite by the Greeks. She ever from an early Italian nature goddess, a bringer of spring blooms and vines, a goddess of growth and a beauty of nature. The goddess of desire, Venus was the irresistible personification of both physical and spiritual love. She gave her name to the second planet of dawn and dusk, as did her sister goddess, Inanna (Surmeria) and IsBear (Babylonia).

The story of Venus’s birth tells how she arosed, naked, from the sea, the source of all life (primarily creation) and a symbol of both the collective unconscious and eternity. It is a wonderful image for the emergence of a young woman into her full femininity. Venus is a striking affirmation of the Love of beauty and the pleasure of the senses. Risen from the sea, she is a guide through both the stormy and calm waters of it physical desires and emotions.

The Friendship Moon (Another Name for April’s Full Moon)

What will We not do for our dear friends? Once upon a time, Sun and Moon, husband and wife, invited their friend Water to stay with them in their very large house. Alas, their home was not big enough! Water and his features quickly filled the house and spilled into the surrounding gardens. Sun and Moon had no where to go but . . .up! This is why Sun and Moon live in the sky.

The element of water, so prevalent in the spring, is closely connected to emotions. April’s Full Moon is a wonderful time to meditate on friendship. To whom are you closely connected? What do you do for each other? Set out a receptacle (house) under the  Full Moon and place a moonshine and a sunstone inside it. Fill the house with water and bless the pair of stones, an amulet for friendship:

To the Moon and back again,

For you, dear friend, anything.

keep the stone that resonates with you, and give the other to a beloved friend.

Colors of Candles: What Do Different Candle Colors Mean

Colors play an important role in our lives and even when we do creative work or meditate, we can lend distinctive vibrations and focus our intentions better through the burning of different colored candles. Indeed; candle “magick” is an important and much studied science and art (which many feel, wrongly, is associated with black magic or witchcraft).

In this guide, we will only refer to the use of candle colors and their meanings for linking to individual energies as based on different colored Chakras. We hope that the candle colors and their meanings given below will work positively on specific forces of the Universe in order to strengthen your affirmations. This, in turn, can help you direct the Universal energy towards particular (positive) conclusions.

This article on Color_means.com has a lot of information about how colors can work in magic and our daily lives. Please click on the following link to read this rest of this information: http://www.color-meanings.com/colors-of-candles-what-do-different-candle-colors-mean/

Set Goals Not Resolutions!

It is getting to be that time of year again when people decide to set resolutions for themselves.  Instead…try something different!  Set Goals for yourself!  My friend Marietta over at Witchy Words (you can click this link to go to her blog http://www.witchywords.com/ ) wrote a blog post last year about setting goals.  I really liked the way she did it because she used a Pentacle to bring in the 5 elements as well as aspects of her life that are important to her.  Here is a photo (used with her permission) of her goals she set for herself using a pentacle.  I have also included a blank version you can print out to use for yourself.  I enjoy using this form because it makes me really think about what is important to me spiritually as well as what is truly achievable.  Click on this link to take you to her original article.   http://www.witchywords.com/2013/09/esbat-goals-worksheet.html

Earth Energy Linking Spell

You will need the following items for this spell:

  • -marker
  • -knife or carving tool
  • -strong will

The earth energy binding spell, will essentially bind your energy to something of the earth. In theory you will have an endless energy supply whenever you’re feeling drained or tired… You should consider connecting to something you like or feel drawn too. For example your favourite tree, favourite plant, favourite outdoor spot to go and relax etc. You will then create a symbol (or one that already exists) that will be the connection point between you and your desired earthly object.
Casting Instructions for ‘Earth Energy Linking Spell Spell’
Find you earthly object and ask it whether or not it is ok to tap into its energy, use your intuition to hear the objects response (this may take meditation)
Draw your mark somewhere on your body (suggested where no-one will see it)
Carve or Draw the same mark onto your earthly object
Meditate; visualizing the connection between yourself and the object growing stronger, see and feel its energy empower you.
Visualize the symbol on both of you, glowing a bright green light, and chant:

?I call upon the earthly powers, connect us now and in all hours, I draw my energy from this mighty _____(earthly object here) and connected we shall forever be!?

chant until you feel the connection is done.

Note:
You have now connected to the life force of the object, however, this does not allow you live until your earthly object dies, you are just borrowing/sharing the energy it?s emitting. Be warned, the connection will be break and you will no longer have the power that the object possesses if it dies, gets chopped down, poisoned etc. you must tend to your object and keep it safe from harm. If you are feeling drained for any reason, just go and meditate by your earthly object for a while, focusing on your connection.

Blowing in the Wind Spell [Element of Air]

Lovely breezes and windy days can be used to connect with the magical element of Air and this magick charm is one that anyone can easily do for themselves and their friends. On a breezy day, find a piece of blue material or ribbon and tie one end to a fence, a tree branch or a clothesline. Then, as you watch the ribbon fly and wave in the wind, repeat these words out loud,

“Blow laughing winds from North and South, from fairy lands and East to West, I’ll be happy as I say send me magic every day,”
You can leave the ribbon there for as long as you like and add any others to it for a magickal message to family and friends.

A Basic Guide to Working with the Elements

2

There a four basic elements most Wiches work with Air, Fire, Water and Earth. There is also a fifth Spirit
which we commune with and use on a daily bases.

When working with and using the elements for spellcraft and rituals please make sure to always dismiss
them and tell them to go back from where they came with your thanks. Not doing so can cause some
strange things to happen where ever you may have used them, i.e. in your home electronics might act up,
feeling a draft for no reason, hearing water running when none is, etc.

Spirit is used any time you call upon a God and/or Goddess and/or an Archangel for help with something.
This element does not usually cause anything strange to happen if you do not send it back. You still should
thank whom ever you called upon to lend power and help to whatever you are doing.

The element of Air is most commonly called upon when needing help with somethig that is intelligents, i.e.
home work, getting a job done by a deadline, some times just thinking straight, etc.

The element of Water is most commonly used when dealing with something involving emotions. By this I do
not mean bending another persons free will trying to make them feel a certain way. In this case you maybe
dealing with grief of someone who just crossed over (died) and want the grief to lessen some, or asking the
Universe to help you find your true love, if you are feeling down, etc. Asking for help in finding your true
love is not the same as asking for a specific person to fall in love with you.

The element of Fire is commonly used for transition, i.e. going from being a child to an adult, moving from
one place to another and asking for help in finding the right place for you, going from working to being
home all the time or vise-virsa etc.

The element of Earth is used to help you feel more intune with your self and those you are around. To
ground you, not as in punishment but as in not feeling so confused and/or not yourself for no apparent
reason.

The four basic elements of Air, Water, Fire and Earth can be used together for certain types of spell work and
each should always be represented on your Altar when preforming any type of Ritual. The fifth Element of
Spirit is always a guiding force during Rituals and should also be represented on your Altar.

Examples of what can be used to represent the Elements on your Altar:

Air set in the East – a feather, hatched wild birds egg, incenses or yellow candle, bird’s nest

Water set in the West – a bowl of tap water or rain water or melted snow (this is usually used in
transformation work), bowl of sea salt or blue candle

Fire set in the South – a red candle or if outside and/or if you have a fireplace on a south wall a real wood
burning fire is possible

Earth set in the North – a bowl of regular table salt, a bowl of dirt from your yard or a green candle

Spirit set in either the Northeast or Nortwest (I always set mine in the Northeast as I feel Spirit and Air
usually work together) – an Angel and/or Goddess and/or God statue or white candle. SPirit can also be
represented by having something in the Northest to represt Goddess (female aspect) and something in the
Northwest to represent God (the male aspect. NOt all witches or traditions of witchcraft work with the duality
of all things also known as the female and male aspects.
