About the Watchtowers and the Guardians

It is a rule in many Wiccan traditions to strenghten the protection of the magickal space/circle by the help of the Watchtowers. Basically this is calling the four Directions and their corresponding elements arround the magickal circle. If you visualise this, it is a sqare built around the magical circle that is in fact a sphere that holds the magical energy within.

Each one of the four Watchtowers is “inhabited” by the Guardians during the ritual. The Guardians of each Tower are its corresponding elements , elementals, Spirits or corresponding Beings of other planes of existence like Dragons, Archangels , Winds, Spirit Animals and even Stars. The Guardians are given specific tasks by the witch for the ritual : protecting the circle, witnessing the ritual, helping the witch do particular work, open portals for certain energies, Spirits, Beings, Gods  to come into the circle by the witches will.

With this article I am going to give some information about one type of Guardians that are four Stars corresponding to each one of the four directions. I first came to know their names and how to call them and work with them  thanks to Silver RavenWolf /”To stir the magick cauldron”/. These four stars Guardians of the four directions are : Fomalhaut / North/, Aldebaran/ East/, Regulus / South/, Antares / West/.

These stars have been known since Ancient times and were called “Royal Stars”, the Key stars, Archangel Stars.

Fomalhaut

Direction : North

Archangel : Gabriel

Zodiac : Aquarius

Season : autumn

Planetary behaviour : it carries energies close to these of Mercury, Uranus and the Sun

Other name : The mouth of the Fish

This star is also considered Dragon star. Fomalhaut consists of 3 stars : Fomalhaut A is 14 times brighter than the Sun and is a blue dwarf star, it belongs to the  constellation Southern Fish. Fomalhaut B is an orange dwarf star and it is this one that is described as Dragon star. Fomalhaut C is a red dwarf star and belongs to the constellation Aquarius.

The energy of Fomalhaut helps the transition from material towards the spiritual. It gives information, courage, helps with the scientific work and writing and also with the spiritual work.

Aldebaran

Direction : East

Archangel :  Michael

Zodiac : Taurus

Season : winter

Planetary behaviour : it carries energies close to these of Mars and Jupiter

Other names : The eye of the Bull, The Star of Buddha, The Star of the Light, The Eye of God, Alef, Rohini.

This is a double star that consists of a red giant and a dwarf star /M2/. This is the brightest star from the constellation Bull. Aldebaran is situated at the eye of the Bull. Aldebaran is the 14th brightest star in the sky. Its energy is Mars type energy and mostly male energy. It brings courage, honor, intelligence, eloquence, steadfastness, integrity, popularity, courage, ferocity, a tendency to seduction, power, wealth. But these are short lived. There is a certain danger of violence. Aldebaran though can be a happy star because it can help one to overcome the lower vibrations through action.  Its negative aspects are violence, obedience, anger, envy, cruelty, arrogance.

Regulus

Direction : South

Archangel : Raphael

Zodiac : Leo

Season : spring

Planetary behaviour : it carries energies close to these of Mars and Jupiter

Other names : The Heart of the Lion, The Little King, The Destructive Step

This is the brightest star in the constellation Leo and one of the brightest stars in the sky. It is situated into the heart of the Lion formed by the stars of the constellation Leo.

Regulus consists of four stars that are two couples. Regulus can affect the human body at the area that is 2 inches above the kidneys. It has a connection with the death and the Ascension of kings and queens.

It brings success, short lived military victory, destruction, military honor, spiritual strength. Regulus provokes ambition, power, independence, a desire to command. This star is connected with the images of lion, cat and sitting king on a throne.

Regulus is one of the 15 Behenian Stars that have magical skills because they are associated with plants and stones. Regulus corresponds with Granite and Mugwort.

Antares

Direction : West

Archangel : Oriel

Zodiac : Scorpio

Season : summer

Planetary behaviour : it carries energies close to these of Mars , Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn

Other names : The Heart of the Scorpio, The Rival of Mars.

In Ancient Egypt Antares was a symbol of the Goddess Selkit.

Antares is a red supergiant star, its size is much bigger than the size of our Sun, by comparison with Antares our Sun looks like a white dot next to a giant red star. Antares is nearing  the end of its life and will explode as super nova. This will not happen in the near future/human time/ and when this happen it will not affect the Earth because of the huge distance between the Earth and Antares.

Antares is the brightest star from the constellation Scorpio and is situated at the heart of the Scorpio. It is the 16th brightest star in the sky. The best moment tp observe it is the time around 31st of May.  It pulsates with red light. Antares has a hot blue giant star twin.

According to an old Egyptian myth Gaia sent the Scorpio to sting Orion who threatened to kill all animals on Earth. The Scorpio killed Orion and later they both were placed on the sky in opposite directions. The Scorpio chases the Mighty Hunter Orion. Antares is considered “ Guardian of the West”. It corresponds with water and carries Mars type energy mixed with the energies of Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn.  Anteres is important for soldiers, it makes one stabborn, warry, brave  and fastens the mind. It gives strategy skills and courage.

Note : the stars Fomalhaut and Regulus are also described as Guardians of North / Regulus/ and South / Fomalhaut/ in the articles I found out online , but I work with them considering Fomalhaut as a Guardian of North and Regulus as a Guardian of South / I follow what Silver RavenWolf has written about them/.

Blessed Be

Until We merry meet again

Ritual Of Casting Sacred Circle by Lord OberRon

Many times we are asked “how do you cast a circle ?” There are so many different was that this can be done. Differs from each Tradition to the next. Even within our own Avaloian Tradition we make improvisations on this.

The main factor is to cast a sacred space. A space that separates this world from the other. A space that we ourselves make holy. And that is what is important. A space that you set aside from all else, to glorify and exalt. For you are the one casting, cleansing, purifying, and setting it aside from all else.

Before you cast, one should make sure of the intent of casting. Ask yourself why…

Sacred Circle, Sacred Sphere: Mapping Consciousness with Seven Directions

by Selena Fox

Honoring the directions of the Sacred Circle is a widespread spiritual practice in ancient and contemporary Nature wisdom traditions. For many practitioners, honoring the directions is an essential component of all rituals. It is a way to create and to connect with sacred space. It also is a way of communing with Nature. Furthermore, it can be a way of mapping consciousness and viewing life.

The Sacred Circle with its directions is called by some, the “Magic Circle,” and by others, the “Medicine Wheel.” Some traditions emphasize the four compass directions of the Circle. Others work with the four compass points plus a central point representing unity. Some also include two additional directions in the center, up and down, to create a Sacred Sphere as well as the Sacred Circle. Qualities, images, colors, and other symbolic associations with the directions vary from path to path, but the idea of Sacred Circle as a place of balancing, healing, and…

How to Cast a Circle for a Pagan Ritual

WHY CAST A CIRCLE?

Do you need to cast a circle every time you perform a spell or ritual?

Much like many other questions in modern Paganism, this is one where the answer really depends on who you ask. Some people opt to always cast a circle prior to formal rituals, but usually do spellwork on the fly without the use of a circle — and this is something that’s doable if you keep your entire home designated as sacred space.

That way you don’t need to cast a brand new circle each time you do a spell. Obviously, your mileage may vary on this. Certainly, in some traditions, the circle is required each and every time. Others don’t bother with it at all.

It’s important to remember that traditionally, the use of a circle is to delineate sacred space. If that’s not something you require before spellwork,…
