Printables For Children

If your child is older then preschool and you would like us to post some age appropriate please leave a comment below with the age of your child and some idea of what kind of printables you would like to see. I cannot guarantee we can find exactly what you are looking for but we will try to.

A Suggestion for parents: Get a folder or something your child can put the printables and other writing on what you are teach them and help them to bless it as their first Book of Shadows. Even a 3-ring binder would work if you have a hole punch.

These will be bigger once you print them out.

Spring is on Its Way in the Southern Hemisphere

I sit here thinking I have no idea what any season is like below the equator so how am I going to write about spring before I share a family arts and craft project featuring stuff that goes with Ostara.

So instead I am going to ask those who reside in the Southern Hemisphere some questions and hopefully at least one person will share some answers. I doubt I am the only person who reads this website, not my own but other people’s posts, who would like to broaden their knowledge of the Southern Hemisphere. Priestess Hypatia lives down under but is on holiday/vacation until the first week in November so I cannot ask her to write something up.

Questions About the Southern Hemisphere

1) Besides AntArctica do you get snow there?

2) Are the big temperature changes from spring to summer to fall to winter?

Okay, I know this question isn’t about spring but I’ve always been curious. When you flush the toilet which direction does the water swirl clockwise or counterclockwise?

3) What direction does the Sun rise from?

4) I have read conflicting articles in which some said the Moon Phases there are opposite of ours up here and others that say they are the same. Can you please tell us which is right?

4) Is it a custom there to dye eggs?

5) How big are the rabbits there and can they have a lot of litters in the same year?

6)Are there any specific flowers that bloom early signaling spring is here? Here we have Tulips, Daffodils, and others.

All of you who take time out of your busy life to answer these questions I thank you and may bountiful blessings come your way. Now onto the art project.

How to Make a Placemat

Give each person 1 or 2 sheets of the objects to color. When they are done coloring an adult should cut out the objects.

Have the person making the place mat lay the objects out on top of the card stock however they think it looks good.

Once they make there final arrangement lift the color objects 1 at a time put a few dots of glue around the edges and a larger one in the center. Than place it back in its spot rubbing it so it sticks. Repeat this process with each object.

After all the objects have been glued in place have the person write their name, runes, symbols, or whatever they want and the adult feels is appropriate in the open spaces on the place mat.

Leave the mats where they are or place them on another flat surface to let the glue completely dry. Which should take around 1 hour. (This is a good time to have everyone clean up the scraps of paper and put all the other stuff away.

Now the tricky part – Have an adult CAREFULLY place the artwork on the Waxed Paper making sure it is in the middle and straight.

IF USING CONTACT PAPER SKIP TO INSTRUCTIONS NUMBER 2

Wax paper should be 2 inches long than the construction paper

1) First put down a towel than a piece of the wax paper, next place card stock or construction paper  in the center of the wax paper and make sure it is straight, than place another piece of wax paper over the top of the artwork on the construction paper and place the other towel over the whole thing. Moving iron set on lowest setting with no steam constantly for about 3 minutes over the entire surface of the towel. Lift up the top towel if the two pieces of wax paper are melted together at the extra parts at the end. If the two ends of the wax paper are not fully melted cover the place mat and again using a constant motion ironing over the whole place mat rechecking the pieces of wax paper about every 30 seconds until they are melted together. Once they are melted together than lift the place mat off of the bottom towel and set the place mat on a flat surface for about 5 minutes or completely cooled to room temperature on both sides. You may need to flip the place mat over to cool the bottom side of it. Lastly trim the excess wax paper off leaving about 1/4 inch of each end of the place mat as this help hold it together and keep air bubbles from forming on the place mat itself.

2) You will need 2 pieces of contact paper for each place mat.Measure out a piece of contact paper about 1 inch longer the the construction paper peel off the backing of 1 sheet. Very carefully, because once the paper is down you will not be able to move it, lay the place mat in the center of the contact paper you might want to use a ruler or something the is flat and as long as the place mat a you are sure is in a straight line to help guide you to set the place mat properly. Next remove the backing of the other sheet of contact paper about 1 inch line the end up so the bottom and top layers of the contact paper are together now using the ruler or flat whatever while you slowly peel the backing of as you are doing this with one hand the other hand should move the flat thing right behind it this should prevent air bubbles. With the contact paper you only get one chance to make sure every thing is right.

DO NOT USE THESE PLACE MATS TO SET HOT PANS OR DISHES ON BECAUSE THE WAX PAPER WITH MELT ON TO ANY HOT SURFACE AND IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OFF. THESE ARE FOR USE FOR PLACE SETTINGS ONLY!!

Time to Put on Your Thinking Cap and Have Some Fun

Below is a printable sheet with the names of different Greek Goddesses and Gods but the letters for their names are jumbled up. Start out seeing how many you can unjumble without doing an internet search for the Greek Pantheon. When you have done all you can without help than use this general search for the Greek Pantheon to help you finish

Greek Pantheon

Please do not share your answers until Thursday to give everyone that wants to a chance to solve the jumbles on their own. Thank you and good luck. Yes, I am going to do this jumble by the same rules as everyone else. It should be interesting because I have not work very much with Greek Goddesses or Gods.
