The Witches Magick for the 10th Day of the Mead Moon – Mead Moon Dream Bath

Mead Moon Dream Bath

Buttermilk encourages a smooth and creamy complexion. Just before you go to sleep, take this dream bath. Use this bath to empower, enrich and uplift you.

For this spell, you will need one-quarter cup of buttermilk powder, six drops of jasmine-scented oil, and one-quarter cup of sea salt.
As you stir all the ingredients into the bathwater chant:

Moon of Mead, empower my dreams.

Now, step into the bathwater. Soak for several minutes. As you do, say three times:

May the powers of the Mead Moon
Empower, enrich, and uplift me
By the lunar light, so shall it be!

Anoint yourself with a few drops of the scented oil after you towel off. Imagine being empowered, enriched, and uplifted by the natural powers of the moon and stars. Continue doing this as you drift to sleep.

Let’s Talk Witch – Petition Magick

Petition Magick

A petition is usually a written wish. It involves asking Deities or Spirit for help and/ or guidance in an issue. Writing can be done with magickal inks with a quill or brush for an extra boost. If you’ve learned them, you can also write in the magickal alphabets that so many books contain. Personally, I’ve never bothered with them, but it may appeal to some. My advice is to only do so if you are comfortable with it and are doing it for a specific reason. Using magical alphabets for no purpose other than wanting to look like a know it all will not impress anyone, least of all Deity. But if you use them, be sure to check and double check your translations and how you’ve written or drawn the symbols. Writing magical petitions so poorly that you come across like a five year old is never a good thing.

Magical inks are available from many pagan stores or there are recipes on the internet for making them if you are that type of person. The most common are Bat’s Blood (for darker magics), Dove’s Blood (for love and growth) and Dragon’s Blood (for power). Bat’s Blood and Dove’s Blood inks may traditionally have been made with the blood of those creatures, but these days it’s a herbal and alcohol based brew. Some like to add a small amount of their own blood (be it 2 drops from a pricked finger or menstrual blood) when writing petitions. Be aware though, that your blood contains links to you and that you should always be careful about how the petition, or any leftover ink, is disposed of.

Many people suggest using parchment for magical writing. As true parchment is made from the skin of a calf or goat, it’s rather hard to come by and expensive when you do find it. Any paper will work, it can perhaps be coloured to work with your purpose, or be recycled and handmade— possibly with appropriate herbs added in during the making process.

As you write your petition, ask for the help you require. Be specific and be careful. If you make promises of offerings or sacrifices be sure that you follow through and understand what it is you are promising. If you don’t know the difference between an offering and a sacrifice I cover them in a later chapter.

A picture filled with your own symbolism can be used instead of or in conjunction with a written petition. Explain your need and pour it into the petition. Raise energy and pour that into the petition too.
Petitions to remove things about yourself can be inscribed in scraps of wood and burned in a Sabbat bonfire.

A simple petition spell to make someone back off and take a chill pill, if you like, is to write their name on paper or write them a letter. Put it in a plastic bag and leave it in the freezer. I’ve gotten rid of a stalker this way, he came to no harm, but wasn’t so hot for me anymore. One friend used it to make her ex back off a bit. Leave it for as long as you feel it’s necessary.

What you do next with your petition is entirely up to you. Petitions have been mentioned in a number of uses in previous spells. They can be burned, wrapped around a talisman or bundle of herbs, carried in a bag or pouch, buried, the ash from a burned petition can go into a powder, a body of water, a wash, mixed with oil or ink and painted onto a talisman, or released into the air.

If you petition is to draw something to you, keep it nearby. If it is to remove something, get rid of it.

Friday Is Ruled By Venus

Friday Is Ruled By Venus

Friday belongs to Venus, both the planet and its namesake Roman goddess of love. This day is sacred to many other gods and goddesses of love such as Eros, Venus, Aphrodite, and the Norse goddess that gave the day its name, Freya. This day of the week is for magical topics such as love, birth, fertility, and romance. Colors for today include pink and aqua. Some suggestions for Friday enchantments would include:

◦Carrying a rose quartz with you today to send out some gentle and loving vibes to those crabby co-workers

◦Working a loving Tarot spell to charm a friend’s pregnancy with good health and safety

◦Working a little flower magic to enchant a single pink rose for friendship and inner beauty, and setting it on your desk. Or try empowering a red rose for passion and placing it in your bedroom.

◦ Burning rose-scented candles to encourage the same effect. Call on Eros to “bring a passion for life” to your days.

◦Sharing a romantic snack with your partner. Feed each other ripe, red strawberries. Those strawberries are love-inducing food, and are sacred to many love goddesses, including today’s patroness, Freya.

Day of Holda. On this day, the Anglo-Saxon and Norse goddess of the Underworld is honored annually with prayers, the lighting of black candles, and offerings of rose petals.

On this day (approximately) a centuries-old festival is held in Douai, France. Wickerwork giants are paraded through the streets of the city to drive away evil-natured spirits and demons.

July 3-August 15. This was recognized by the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Arabians and Polynesians. The Dog Days of Summer takes it’s name from the rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. The ancient words which we translate as “the Dog Star” could also be interpreted as “the little bitch bringing heat.” This is the hottest period in the Northern hemisphere of Earth.

Lady Godiva, Skaoi, Goddess Month of Rosea Ends

History recorded that on this day in 1045 CE, Lady Godiva, the wife of Leofric III, the Earl of Mercia and Lord of Coventry, rode naked through the village of Coventry to persuade her husband to reduce his onerous taxes upon its residents. As the legend goes, she appealed to Leofric repeatedly to cease his oppressive taxation, and after a time he promised to do so under the condition that she ride naked through the town.

Accounts of her ride vary. In one, she did so having first issued an edict that all the residents of Coventry were to remain indoors and shutter their windows. In another, she rode the length of Coventry Market in full view of all the townspeople with two of her female attendants, who were clothed.

Leofric thereafter relented, and moderated his taxes.

Today is a celebration of the Norse goddess Skaoi, or Skadhi, the wife of Niord. She is a Goddess of the hunt. she Journeyed to Asgard to seek revenge for the murder of her father Thjazi by the Gods, but she was persuaded instead to marry on of them.

She was made to choose her husband by viewing the feet of the Gods. In celebration of her wedding, Odin transformed the eyes of Thjazi into stars.

Friday’s Witchery

Friday’s Witchery

Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and eduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.

Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.

Friday

Friday

The name Friday comes from the Old English Frīġedæġ, meaning the “day of Frige”, a result of an old convention associating the Old English goddess Frigg with the Roman goddess Venus, with whom the day is associated in many different cultures. The same holds for Frīatag in Old High German, Freitag in Modern German and vrijdag in Dutch.

The expected cognate name in Old Norse would be *friggjar-dagr. However, the name of Friday in Old Norse is frjá-dagr instead, indicating a loan of the weekday names from Low German. The modern Scandinavian form is Fredag in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish, meaning Freya’s day. The distinction between Freya and Frigg in some Germanic mythologies is problematic.

Friday is associated in many cultures with the love goddess Venus, and the planet named for her.
